48÷2(9+3) = ?

Just earlier I encountered an interesting math equation which is 48÷2(9+3) = ?
I tried solving this problem and I came up with 2. But then I asked others if what's their answer, some say 288. I don't really know what's the rule of mathematics. But as I have remembered and if my Math teacher was right, we used PEMDAS which is all equations inside a Parenthesis comes first, (multiply / divide) follows then (add / subtract) either way. Even calculators have their own answers. haha!

What do you think? Please explain your answer/opinion about this.
And if you have the time, do post your solution in the comment area.

    My solution is:

    48/2(12) = ?
    48/24 = 2

    what's yours?

  2. 48÷2(9+3) =

    48÷2=24
    9+3= 12

    24(12)= 288

  3. my solution is.....9+3=12(remember the answer first)...then 48÷2=24.....so the answer is 24x9 is 288..there you have it...(but the most un answerable wuestion is...why does it have to be PMDAS?

  4. yeyyy sakto ko naas google. bwuahaha http://www.mathsisfun.com/operation-order-pemdas.html

"Divide and Multiply rank equally (and go left to right).
Add and Subtract rank equally (and go left to right)"
After you have done "P" and "E", just go from LEFT TO RIGHT doing any "Multiplication" OR "Division" as you find them."

. . so sa equation ni kinit, kung magsugod kas left, ang division may na una. so i-divide sa ang 48 by 2 then times 12 dayun to get 288. kay equal ra lage nag priority ang MD and AS. dili pasabot kay tungod MDAS man, unahon jd ang multiplication. ., . wahoooo! :D :D

  5. awa ragud huna hunaa ninyog maayo dili ta mag gamit ug calculator kay maka bogo na samot pa jud peke gi palit taka taka lang ug compute.
    anion nato kuno ug suwat:

    48
    ---------
    2(9+3)

kung dili man gani parentheses imong unahon, pwede man ka mo apply ug cancelling una dba... mas klaro man in.anion kaysa ani:
48÷2 (9+3).. so kung i cancel nani nimo mahimo nag 24 ang 48 kay 48 divisible man gud 2. so ang 2 kay ang divisor.. wala ta nag divide ani ha nag cancel rata.. so kay wala man ta nag divide... dili na pwde ma wala ang division kay nag cancelling ragud ta.. mo stay jd ang division so dili ta ka multiply anang 24 sa (9+3) which is 12. dba? so kung ato naning ma apply in.ani na ang mo gawas after sa cancelling:

    24
    --------
    1(9+3)

    so,
    24
    --------
    12

    = 2

so 2 gihapon ang final answer kung mag cancelling ta una which is dali cya..

kung dli ta mag cancelling parehas ghapon ang answer... awa ha in.anaon gihapon nato ug suwat..:

    48
    ---------
    2(9+3)

    so,
    48
    ---------
    2(12)

    so,
    48
    ---
    24

    = 2

so 2 jd ang final answer. d na mahimo depende ang answer. usa ray answer ana d pwede 288..

  6. yeah i agree follow PEMDAS

    9+3 = 11
    11*2 = 22
    48/22 = 2.18

  7. ooopps!! my bad!!

    9+3 = 12
    12*2 = 24
    48/24 = 2

    SO THE ANSWER IS: 2

human nman tawn ko swela oe..cge nlang..hehehe

    48/2(9+3) <-- find the answer.
first of all there are a lot of ways to solve this typical question.

The distributive property of multiplication CLEARLY states that the 2(9+3) is an entire statement and CANNOT be broken up. 2(9+3) follows the distributive property which can be rewritten as (2*9+2*3). Let me repeat the 2 outside of the parenthesis follows the distributive property of multiplication and must be factored and simplified before performing any other operations on it. You do NOT compute this expression from left to right until you use Algebra to simplify the statement 2(9+3).

So this can be rewritten as:
    48 / (2*9 + 2*3)

    Which leaves us with

    48 / 24 = 2

    Answer = 2

    The end...have a nice day..

Doesn't matter what you do first the anser is still the same
    48/2 (9+3)
    48/2=24
    9+3=12
    24*12=288

    48------- 2(12)
    9+3=12
    12*2=24
    48*6=288
