Miriam Defensor Santiago's Interview

Transcript of Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago's interview

On the Catholic Church possibly using Rep. Pacquiao for their anti-RH campaign.

On that point, I have two comments to make. One is serious, the other facetious. The serious comment first. I thank the Catholic Church for not exploiting the Pacquiao visit. One priest has already said that they are not going to use him as the poster boy. I commend the Catholic Church because otherwise, it would have muddied the waters. Secondly, Pacquiao was said to be quoting the Bible saying, "Go out to the world and multiply." First may I just, since he is just a legislator, make a point of information, may I just make a point of grammar please? The Bible does not say, "Go out to the world." It sounds very much like God is encouraging us to go out and copulate in public. God said in the Bible, "Go forth and multiply." That meant that God wanted man, not necessarily to literally multiply, but to go out to work with the rest of the human beings of this planet and to apply the stewardship theory. Meaning to say, taking care of each other, who are all in the planet living together.

Now, for the facetious comment. Number one, there is an element of hypocrisy here because at first, Pacquiao's wife was quoted as saying that she uses the pill, while Pacquiao was quoted as saying that he applies discipline to space his children. In that case, apparently, Pacquiao would have to use violence on his wife because she is not living in conformity with his beliefs. The second point is this, Pacquiao is quoted as saying, "Go out to the world and multiply," apart from the grammatical point already raised, I would like to say if this is going to be a debate of biblical quotes, then I will counter with a quote: "The devil can cite scripture for its purposes." The third facetious comment is this: it is very dangerous to be a fundamentalist. That is what Pacquiao is. He reads the Bible and he interprets it literally. The Bible, as you know, was not written by God. The Bible was written at least 17 years after the death of Jesus Christ, so it was not even written by any of the eyewitnesses to Jesus. They are quoting Jesus liberally throughout the Bible because none of them were living when he was around. Plus, they are quoting God, but the Bible says that none of them has ever seen God. In fact, if you have claimed to have seen God, as I've said, you are in urgent need of psychiatric care. The Bible was written first in Aramic and then interpreted into Hebrew, and then into Latin, and from Latin, into all the Latin based languages of the Western world, including English. So it is very dangerous to quote the Bible and apply it literally as Pacquiao is doing. Bakit mo papasukan ito, e kaming mga senador hindi papasok sa pagboksing, pero kung gusto mo, eh di puwede rin.

Are you threatened that Pacquiao's popularity will sway the mindset of Filipinos who are pro-RH bill?

No, I don't think so. We know, we can see, that he knows more about boxing than possibly anybody alive particularly in the welterweight department, which is considered to be "the" boxing title. But still, we cannot be know-it-alls. It will be very misleading to use his celebrity status to enter into, what is after all, a great debate on the political economy.

What are the highlights of the bill?

What we want to do is just tell all women of childbearing age in the Philippines, what are their options for family planning. We'll teach them natural family planning as espoused by the Catholic Church, the use of condoms, the use of other contraceptives, and so on. It's just a question, really, of providing information. That's why if you're going to be asked to answer "yes" or "no" (if you are in favor of the RH bill), you must cast a conscience vote, and not what somebody dictates to you on what should be your vote. Nobody has a monopoly of the thoughts of God. Nobody is acquainted with mind of God.

Employee and the Boss

I just saw this post on a forum and wanted to repost here on my blog. Thanks to the poster. :)

When I Take a long time to finish, I am slow,
When my boss takes a long time, he is thorough

When I don't do it, I am lazy,
When my boss does not do it, he is busy,

When I do something without being told, I am trying to be smart,
When my boss does the same, he takes the initiative,

When I please my boss, I am apple polishing,
When my boss pleases his boss, he is cooperating,

When I make a mistake, I' am an idiot.
When my boss makes a mistake, he's only human.

When I am out of the office, I am wandering around.
When my boss is out of the office, he's on business.

When I am on a day off sick, I am always sick.
When my boss is a day off sick, he must be very ill.

When I apply for leave, I must be going for an interview
When my boss applies for leave, it's because he's overworked

When I do good, my boss never remembers,
When I do wrong, he never forgets

Movie Review: 3 Idiots

Two friends embark on a quest for a lost buddy. On this journey, they encounter a long forgotten bet, a wedding they must crash, and a funeral that goes impossibly out of control.

I watched this movie last 2 days, I am so amazed, because this is the very first time I watched an Indian comedy film and it's fantastic. Well, I just don't like the singing and dancing part and that's what I don't like with Indian films, but even if there's singing and dancing in this movie, you will just forget about it while the movie keeps on rolling. I didn't even noticed that this movie is almost 3 hours of fun, there's a sad part though. What I like the most of this movie is the part of Aamir Khan (Rancho), doing whatever it takes just to help his friends without asking for anything in return. He's a very very good friend, he's like a parent to his bestfriends.
But he has a secret, even his closest friends in college didn't know... and after graduation he left without a trace. And then this is where the journey starts...

"Whatever the problem in life is.. just say to yourself 'Aal Izz Well' (All Is Well). This wont solve your problems but it will give the courage to face it..", "Chase Excellence and success will follow", " Life is not about getting marks or grades but chasing your dreams" These are the golden rules which 3 Idiots teaches you in an entertaining way. The movie makes you laugh and in the process you learn many golden rules which can alter your life in a big manner.

I rate this movie 10/10. I'm going to watch this movie again, next week I guess. :P

Music: When morning comes

I want to share a song that keeps playing on my iPod. I don't know the exact lyrics, I searched for it but no results. If you know the lyrics please do contact me, I'd like to post it here and maybe sing along with it. hehe!

I decided to transcribe what I hear. So here's the unofficial one:

Maybe I'll catch my breathe when I wake up to the summer air
My phone's turned off seconds of silence to clear my head
There's got to be a million things I haven't said (What I can't get it alone)
I take it all in and head to the door you know I'll see you on the other end

Don't let the sun lead the way, I'll capture all the perfect things
You don't see it when you're alone, we'll start it up again (Yeah!)

July we're running again the windows down and I'm back to the wind
(With nothing more!)
Than just a couple of best friends and let's stand out with a GPS
(I'm ready to go!)
This are the times that I will never forget I wish you could come along
You can see it all for yourself, about the good times (Take the wheel!)

Don't let the sun lead the way, I'll capture all the perfect things
You don't see it when you're alone, so let's see this
-----??? ...so we'll take it, and carry this to the end
When morning comes, we'll start it up again

Take a breathe come on and raise your hands in mine
Close your eyes give on and listen to the silence

Don't let the sun lead the way, I'll capture all the perfect things
You don't see it when you're alone... When you're alone
Don't let the sun lead the way, I'll capture all the perfect things
You don't see it when you're alone, so let's see this
----??? ...so we'll take it, and carry this to the end
When morning comes, we'll start it up again.

Movie Review: Confessions

A psychological thriller of a grieving mother turned cold-blooded avenger with a twisty master plan to pay back those who were responsible for her daughter's death.

I just watched this box office hit movie from Japan, Confessions. This movie is brilliant, the plot, the actors, effects, everything!
Confessions begins with a long lecture from Yuko Moriguchi, a teacher at a school somewhere in Japan (I thought this movie was boring, I almost stopped the movie while she was lecturing, but I'm glad I didn't).  Ms. Moriguchi is about to leave the school, but before doing so, she gave one final lesson to her students on the value of life. While lecturing, she shocks her students with a revelation that her young daughter (5 year old), whose death which the police concluded was an accident, was intentionally murdered by two of her own students. She didn't only revealed the murderers' identity but also explains how she plans to take revenge on those students.
I don't want to give more spoilers, I definitely want to recommend this movie to everyone, well not really everyone because there's a lot of violence and blood spilled in this movie. I rate this movie 9/10.

Osama Bin Laden dead

This is taken from Yahoo News. This is worth posting. May he Rest in Peace, oh wait, Rest in War? lol

WASHINGTON – Osama bin Laden, the glowering mastermind behind the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks that murdered thousands of Americans, was killed in an operation led by the United States, President Barack Obama said Sunday.
A small team of Americans killed bin Laden in a firefight Sunday at a compound in Pakistan, the president said in a dramatic late-night statement at the White House.

A jubilant crowd gathered outside the White House as word spread of bin Laden's death after a global manhunt that lasted nearly a decade.

"Justice has been done," the president said.

Former President George W. Bush, who was in office on the day of the attacks, issued a written statement hailing bin Laden's death as a momentous achievement. "The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done," he said.

Few details were immediately available of the operation that resulted in bin Laden's death, although the president said none of the Americans involved was harmed.

The development came just months before the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Centers and Pentagon, orchestrated by bin Laden's al-Qaida organization, that killed more than 3,000 people.

The attacks set off a chain of events that led the United States into wars in Afghanistan, and then Iraq, and America's entire intelligence apparatus was overhauled to counter the threat of more terror attacks at home.

Al-Qaida was also blamed for the 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa that killed 231 people and the 2000 attack on the USS Cole that killed 17 American sailors in Yemen, as well as countless other plots, some successful and some foiled.

A senior administration official says Obama gave the final order for U.S. officials to go after bin Laden on Friday. The official added that a small team found their quarry hiding in a large home in an affluent suburb of Islamabad. The raid occurred in the early morning hours Sunday.

Obama spoke with Bush and former President Bill Clinton Sunday night to inform them of the developments.

The attacks a decade ago seemed to come out of nowhere, even though al-Qaida had previously damaged American targets overseas.

The terrorists hijacked planes, flew one of them into one of Manhattan's Twin Towers — and, moments later, into the other one. Both buildings collapsed, trapping thousands inside and claiming the lives of firefighters and others who had rushed to help them.

A third plane slammed into the Pentagon, defacing the symbol of America's military night. A fourth crashed in rural Pennsylvania after passengers overpowered the hijackers and forced it down — before it could hit its intended target in Washington.

Obama struck a less than boastful tone in his brief announcement, although he said the death of bin Laden was "the most significant achievement to date in our nation's effort to defeat al-Qaida.

"His death does not mark the end of our effort. There's no doubt that al-Qaida will continue to pursue attacks against us. We must and we will remain vigilant," he added.

Moments after he spoke, American officials cautioned that the events could lead to heightened threats against the United States.
